Here's the current situation, we're implementing SCVMM, SCOM, SCCM all 2012 with a view of migrating over 800 virtual and physical servers from VMware onto the new platform. We will also be adding additional System Center products at a later date.
I have a requirement to build 20 servers and it has been suggested that we use Service Templates for these servers to make updating them easier. I may have missed a trick but I can't see the benefit of doing this as the existing servers will all be patched and updated by SCCM so would this not just add another process to managing severs that have been deployed using a Service Template? The servers are never going to need additional roles\features adding to them as they will perform specific tasks i.e. a DC isn't all of a sudden going to need the DHCP role added to it nor will adding additional resources be a major issue....
I'm sure that spinning up 20 servers from a template in VMM would be quicker and then managed by SCCM?
Let me have your thoughts please.
