SCVMM Maintenance mode fails with warning

$

0

Very recently I had 1 of our 6 Hypver-v hosts cease to boot from the san.
So I removed it from the Hyper-V Cluster and reinstalled windows and brought it back up with the same name.

I rejoined it to the Hyper-V cluster. Everything went well enough until the next morning when I found that I could not put any of our 6 servers into Maintenance mode from the SCVMM 2012 console. In the console I get this message:

Warning (23756)

Changes have been made which should be verified by running placement again.

Recommended Action

Use the Refresh Preview action to run placement again.

I can live migrate single VM's around just fine and I can even clear out an entire host by doing a pause - drain roles from the failover cluster management tool.

Once a host is empited out and not running any VM's then it can go into maintenance mode but what good is that?

I have gone down the rabit hole of Trace logging and this is what I am staring at:

E2C.0005::10/22-14:56:01.842#19Task.cs(259): Task failed error VMConfigurationPlacementOutOfDate (23756) with exception Microsoft.VirtualManager.Utils.CarmineException: Changes have been made which should be verified by running placement again.

00023123 189.36448669 [3628] Use the Refresh Preview action to run placement again. ---> Microsoft.VirtualManager.Engine.ImageLibrary.VMChildObjectNotFoundException: VMM cannot find VirtualHardDisk object e611e3a9-e606-4b67-a2e9-dd88924ad7ff.

I have gone the router of backing up my Hyper-V database and running a couple of different sql scripts that are intended to remove orphaned objects. This has not helped.
I can not find this VHD object anywhere I have looked in the DB.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I may fix this issue. I am lucky in that all VM's are up and running but I am concerned for what this may do to our High Availability.

Hi,

I'm getting a error in the server manager on my Hyper-V 2012 R2 server:
Eventid 75 (system log) source: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VmSwitch,

The operation 'Get Stats' failed on port <number> (friendly name:) on switch <number> (Friendly name: <switch-name>). Status = A non close operation has been requested of a file object with a delete pending..

I'ts a Windows Hyper-V  2012 R2 server with a virtual switch created with SCVMM.

It looks everyting works but this error still once in a while pops-up.

Cannot deploy machine due to incorrect memory settings

Hi

Using SCVMM 2012R2 update 6.

I have a machine stored in library with snapshots. Somehow SCVMM fucked it up, so now the minimum memory settings is 4MB and therefor it wont allow me to deploy it to a host. And I cannot changed the value when its in library, so how can I fix it?

Kim

I hope someone can assist on this. I am trying to install SCVMM on Server 2012 R2 but i keep seeing this fail.

Here is the current setup:

Windows Server 2012 joined to domain.

MSSQL Server 2012

Windows AIK

Features - WinRM

When i try to install i receive error

"Installing D:\SC2012 R2 SCVMM\amd64\setup\msi\Server\vmmServer.msi failed with Windows Installer error 1603.
See C:\ProgramData\VMMLogs\vmmServer.log for more information. After resolving the problem, retry setup."

When i check the vmmServer.log i can see the following:

Errors during VM migration

$

Hi,

I have an SCVMM 2012 R2 instance (with CU1), and when I perform a VM migration I get a status of Completed w/ Info

In the details pane of the Jobs window I have 9 errors and a warning every time

Error 23801 - No available connection to selected VM Network can be found

Error 23810 - There is no host NIC with required classification

Error 23806 - All available ports on switch extenstion has been used

Error 23808 - All available ports on port profile has been used

Error 23807 - The switch extension has reached maximum supoprted ports on this host

Error 23809 - The port profile has reached maximum support ports on this host

Error 23811 - Ports are not available for VM Subnet

Error 23825 - The virtual machine requires a logical switch connection and the host network adapter is not attached to a logical switch or operating sytem doesn't support logical switch

Error 23753 - The virtual machine or tier load balancer configuration requires an IP pool and there are no appropraite IP pools accessible from the host

Warning 23830 - Unable to find compliant logical switch

Even with all of these warnings the migrated VM works just fine.

In our environment we are using a layer 3 switch with VLANs, so I have a logical network using the 'VLAN-based independent networks' option, with two sites

Each site has an assoicated VLAN ID, and IP subnet

I've created a logical switch (without SR-IOV), using only the Microsoft Windows Filtering platform extension

The uplink on the logical switch is not a team, and has a port profile associated with the host group including all my Hyper-V hosts, and including all sites from the logical network

The virtual port on the logical switch has High bandwidth and medium bandwidth port classifications associated

I have VM Networks created for each of the sites on my logical network

The network configuration on my VM is as follows:

Connected to a VM network, enable VLAN

IP address is greyed out as Static IP (from a static IP pool) - This was configured as Dynamic at creation time as I do not use IP pools

  MAC address is dynamic

Virtual switch - using the logical switch mentioned above and High Bandwidth classification

The hosts have a dedicated interface on a trunked network port for VM data. Available for placement is checked, used by management is not (as i have a dedicated interface for that)

It has the logical network mentioned above assigned, and all IP sites are shown with their VLAN IDs

I believe I have everything configured correctly (after all the VM works correctly regardless of which host is running it), but i still see these errors during a VM migration

Has anybody seen this before, or have any pointers to resolving them?

The hosts are Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and the VM is Server 2012 R2 Standard

Thanks,

Phil

How do i force SCVMM to update [tbl_WLC_VObject] OSID column ?

$

I found some inconsistencies between the VM state and properties reported on the Hyper-V and the SCVMM db data.

How do i force update the SCVMM DB data ? without restarting the application, or the VM .

My env:  I have the Hyper-V formed from 4 hosts.

The VM that has inconsistent data is recorded in SCVMM db as being hosted on host 4 and with NULL OSID and OSProfileId data.

Now on the actualy Hyper-V the VM is hosted on host-2 and has a Windows 2012 R2 installed on it.

I checked the OSID tables and we have that type of OS record there, so it should find it.

I know the simplest method would be to just run the update query with the corrected info but that is an aproach that i don't like it. Also i tried with updating the ObjectState in VObject table to 1 and wait for the SCVMM update to pick it up but it doesn't.

Thanks guys.

SCVMM Library Server can be Virtual Machine

Frenz,

I have a SCVMM 2012 R2 environment running on 2 Node cluster as a VM.

I would like to add a new library server for the same.

1. Can I create a fileshare in the Same hyper-V cluster (as my SCVMM VM) and attach it to the SCVMM Server?

2. If No, can I create a New VM and add it as a SCVMM Library Server.?

VM is not assigned IP address form Static IP address Pool

$

Hello.   when I deploy my Virtual machine with VMM Static IP address Pool , my VM gets the DNS setting of the pool , but not the IP address that is automatically assigned by the Pool. Instead it gets an IP address form DHCP server. However, if I manually enter an IP address from the pool in my VM network adapter setting, VMM recognizes that and the IP address Pool excludes the address. This is all on a single subnet. Th VMM's job for deploying the VM does not give any error or warning. I use a VM template that has a sysprep VHDX disk in order to deploy the VM. VMM is 2012 R2 with  rollup 7 and the  VM is 2012 R2.

Any Suggestion would be greatly appreciated. :)

VMM 2012 RC - Service Deployment Error 22591

When attempting to scale out a machine tier within a service I receive the following error:

Error (22591)
The specified computer name (WEB05) is already in use by another virtual machine or by a virtual machine configuration object.

Recommended Action
Ensure that the computer name is unique in the VMM environment, and then try again.

I've checked DNS, AD, VMM, etc but have not current record of this name in use. Each time I retry this operation, the number increments by one (using web## variable in service template) but returns the same error. Is this something wedged in the DB?

Adding 3Par Fibre channel Fabric to VMM 2012 R2

System Information:

VMM 2012 R2 with Update 1

HP 3Par7200 - 3.1.2 (MU3)

I go to fabric/storage/Add Resources/Storage Devices. If I select "SAN and NAS devices discovered and managed by a SMI-S provider" I am able to point it at my 3Par and successfully add the array. If I choose "Fibre Channel fabric discovered and managed by a SMI-S provider" I get the following.

"Storage discovery of fabric provider '3PARAddress' for user 3paradm failed from vmm2012.xxx. Specify valid provider, port and user credentials for storage discovery."

Is there some configuration I need to do on the 3Par to enable Fibre channel fabric discovery?

Thanks.

Hosts/Library systems don't show as requiring any updates/no new updates in compliance properties despite being assigned

We have VMM 2012 R2.  In Sept/Oct of 2014 we were able to update all resources in VMM (Library Servers and Hyper-V hosts) by creating an update baseline and then adding updates to it.  However, since then, when i create a new Update Baseline, add updates to it and assign it to servers, when i scan against it, they don't show as requiring any new updates and are compliant with all existing updates.

I've verified the updates are in my new update baseline.  When i click on a library server (the update server for example), and right click and select Compliance Properties, i can see all the baselines assigned to that system.  It shows all the updates in each baseline, and in the existing baselines from Sept/Oct, there are updates in that baseline.  It also shows my baselines from November and December, but it doesn't show any updates in those.

Whether I create a new baseline or add updates to an existing baseline (whether that's an Nov/Dec or Sept/Oct baseline), no updates show up under Compliance Properties of an assigned server.  They do show up in the actual Update Baseline under Library | Update Catalog and Baselines | Update Baselines.

Any thoughts?  I'm stumped

I am upgrading from SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 to SCVMM 2012. DB is running on SQL 2008 R2.

This is an Inplace upgrade of SCVMM.

The account that we are connecting SQL DB and installing  has SA and DBO rights. SA permission we are using until the install/upgrade is complete.

Below is the error i see from the setup log.

Fast File Copy

Hello,

I'm trying to Leverage the Fast File Copy and I followed these Prerequistes

  • Only for new VM deployment from the VMM library
  • RAA (run as account) on source and target
    • VMM and the hosts (source and target) must be on the trusted domain with no firewall among the environments.
  • VMM R2 agent
  • VMM R2 Server
  • Windows Server 2012 and above
  • ODX supported SAN storage

and I made sure that we have the Run As Account set on the Host Access. Do I need to have the SAN added as Storage Device in the File Server? or what am I missing? I keep getting the Error 26559 username and password is wrong.

some user failed to log on to SCVMM with event id: 1615. However, other user can log on successfully

Recently, we experienced the below issue:

When some user try to open VMM console and connect it "use current Microsoft Windows Session identity", the log on willl fail with the below error; (But some other user in the same group can log on successfully)

Error:

VMM is unable to perform this operation without a connection to a Virual Machine Manager Management server.

Screenshot:

The screenshot for ID: 1615

Can some one tell me what's wrong with this?

Troubleshooting that we have done:

1:We add this problem user explicitily and it doesn't work.

2: Checked windows event log, no related error.

3: Follow some forum link to check the ownership of the backend vmm database and the owner is existing.

What we wanted:

1: Tell us how to enable the more detailed log why the sign in failed.

2: Give us the possible reason for this and how to fix it.

Many Thanks!

2012 R2 VMM Console fails to connect. ID: 2607

Hello,

When trying to login using the VMM console I get the following error.

"The SQL Server service account does not have permission to access Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).

Ensure that the SQL Server service is running under a domain account or a computer account that has permission to access AD DS. For more information, see "Some applications and APIs require access to authorization information on account objects" in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=121054.

ID: 2607”

This is a clean installation on Server 2012 R2. The setup is as the following;

-      VMM and SQL installed on same server

-      Domain user (not domain admin) is member of local administrators group on the VMM server

-      Domain user used for VMM service account

-      Domain user used for SQL service account

-      Domain user is DBOwner

What works;

Console login using the service account user on the local machine or remote machine

What fails;

Console login using any other user specified in the Administrator user Role of VMM

Any ideas?

Is System Center 2012 R2 - Configuration Analyzer 1.0 for VMM useful and valid for VMM 2012 R2 in 2015?

$

I am trying to determine the cause of errors deploying new VMs to a host. Some discussions suggested that the VMMCA might be able to shed light on the cause of the problem.

In trying to use VMMCA, I am getting several errors in the report, but I am not convinced that they represent actual problems, and I am beginning to suspect that VMMCA is perhaps outdated.

Any opinions on that?

-

The original error I am trying to eliminate is this:

Error (2915). The Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service cannot process the request. The object was not found on the server

-

In VMMCA I get this error for every server (VMM management, hosts, library):

“No required update or hotfix information exists for [server]

The VMMCA does not have a list of required hotfixes for the operating system of the specified server.

VMM may not function correctly or at all with the specified server (note that this does not apply to the VMM console, as the console can be installed in client operating systems and therefore this rule can be ignored).

If the computer is being used or will be used for any of the VMM server roles: host, library, PXE server, WSUS server, or VMM management server, ensure that it has a supported server operating system (Windows Server 2008 or a later version).”

All of the servers are running Windows Server 2012 R2 with all available updates from Windows Update.

I cannot find anywhere a list of recommended updates and hotfixes for VMM 2012 R2. So how should VMMCA be able to do this?

-

I also get this error in the VMMCA report for every host:

“The WMI virtualization store is in an unhealthy state on [server]

The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) virtualization store did not respond appropriately to a basic health test on the specified server.

VMM may not function correctly or at all with the specified server. You may see a "Not Responding" message in the VMM console or VMM operations on the server may fail.

Resolution:

1. Verify that the WMI service is running on the specified server by running the command net start winmgmt at a command prompt using elevated privileges

2. Ensure that the WMI virtualization store is in a healthy state on the specified server. To check the integrity of or to repair the virtualization store, run the command winmgmt /salvagerepository at a command prompt using elevated privileges

3. Ensure that all Hyper-V management services are in healthy state if the server is being used or will be used as a host. You may need to restart the following Hyper-V services: Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management, Hyper-V Image Management, and Hyper-V Networking Management.”

With regard to the 3 steps for resolution:

  1. The WMI service is already running, so no point in net start.
  2. I do not want to run winmgmt /salvagerepository unless I am certain something is wrong. I tried winmgmt /verifyrepository which says “WMI repository is consistent”. So I think it looks ok despite the error.
  3. Again: I do not want to restart these services. There are vm’s running, which do important work. And I have rebooted the servers multiple times lately.

-

And finally I get this one error:

“VMM SPNs are incorrectly registered for [server name]

The Service Principal Names (SPNs) that VMM requires were not correctly registered when the VMM management server was set up on the specified server. This is a known issue in System Center 2012 – Virtual Machine Manager.

The VMM console may not be able to connect to the VMM management server and/or deploying a Hyper-V host to a bare-metal computer may not work.

Resolution:

Manually add the SPNs that are required by VMM by running the following commands as an administrator at an elevated command prompt:

1. setspn -S SCVMM/yourmachine -U domain\account

2. setspn -S SCVMM/yourmachine.fqdn.com -U domain\account”

The text mentions VMM 2012 – not VMM 2012 R2. So I am not convinced that it is a good idea to try to add the SPNs manually without verifying that something is actually wrong.
