I've got the console on:

1) the server itself with Windows Server 2019 Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.379)

2) a client machine with Windows 10 Pro Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.615)

3) another server with Windows Server 2016 Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.2906)

This VMM server has been migrated from the old 2016 server (number 3) to the new 2019 server (number 1). Before being migrated, it was upgraded from 2016 to 2019.

I've also had to do some manual cleaning of the database but I was careful to delete only the orphaned logical switch and connected objects (I deleted only records that were linked by constraints).

I could also recreate the whole server (on another server) with a new database if I need to, but I'd like to know if that is a doable thing... will I be able to reconnect to the new SCVMM the existing hyper-v cluster without service disruption? For example, will VMM match the existing virtual switch of the cluster to the same name switch I will create in the new instance?

Is there any way to make uppercase of the host names in SCVMM?

It's important or required maybe but it's not looking good :)

"Failed while applying switch port settings" in Network virtualized env.

When deploying a VM I am getting the below Error message.

The problem occurs when deploying a VM in a Network virtualized env. In a non Network virtualized env it works just fine.

Been at this for a long time and need a more set of eyes on this issue.

Error (12700)
VMM cannot complete the host operation on the hyperv2.wap.local server because of the error: The operation failed.

Failed while applying switch port settings 'Ethernet Switch Port Security Settings' on switch 'vSwitch-wap': One or more arguments are invalid (0x80070057).
Unknown error (0x8005)

Recommended Action
Resolve the host issue and then try the operation again.

Anyone got any idea?

Failed while applying switch port settings 'Ethernet Switch Port Security Settings'

When trying to connect my VM Network Adapter to my Logical Switch I get this error.

Failed while applying switch port settings 'Ethernet Switch Port Security Settings' on switch 'Logical Switch': One or more arguments are invalid (0x80070057).
Unknown error (0x8005)

I have deleted and rebuilt the entire Logical Switch, Port Profile and then deleted and re-created the switch on each of the Hyper-V hosts with no resolve.  This same message appears when trying to directly connect the VM using Hyper-V Manager.

Hope that someone here might have an idea as to what is causing it.

SCVMM 2016 not display any Operating system past 2008r2

When creating a VM from either a template or creating one on the fly. It doesn't allow me to specify the operating system as anything more than 2008r2?

Is this a bug or a setting somewhere?

Oddity with Migrating in to Private Cloud

$

Hi there. I'm migrating our 2012R2 hypervisor environment up into VMM 2019 on 2019 and then breaking out Private Clouds for departments to use as opposed to having dedicated hypervisors.

One weird issue I'm seeing is in setting the tenant and user groups. So I created the private cloud with it's dedicated VLAN, resource quotas, etc.. all looks gravy from the admin side. Then went into the VM view and modified the VMs to be included to the farm. Everything is still great; quotas assigned and resources graphed out, etc... I configure a tenant admin group removing rights for shielded VMs and azure profiles, but otherwise left that open. I also left the user group resource limits unchecked, thinking it would just inherit from the private cloud.

I then log in as a tenant admin user to QA the site.... and there's nothing available. Going back to the tenant admun user group for this cloud, I add all the VMs into the Resources pane of the User role group and going back to the test user, I can now see the VMs. But what is still not working? Quota. Quota shows up as empty of resources with the set threshold listed. Outside of logic this then seems to prevent VM creation, snapshotting and other resource dependent functions.

Anyone know what might be going on here?

Virtual network adapter not getting installed

$

The issue started when I tried to add a new virtual network in VMware Workstation 14 using Virtual Network Editor but the changes revert back without getting applied. I tried with different versions (VMware Workstation 15 too) multiple times but the issue remained. Then I noticed the virtual network adapter is not getting installed during the VMware installation process (I tried attaching the pics but I'm a new user here and cannot attach any images or links). The same thing happened for Virtual Box too. At last I enabled Hyper-V, and during the reboot I get the message "We Couldn’t Complete the Updates. Undoing Changes". What can I do to sort this issue?

Hi guys,

I get this when trying to deploy a VM template to one of my hosts. Any idea why?

Enviroment :

Hyper-V 2016 Cluster

SCVMM 2019 on Server 2016.

This did not happen before the upgrade of the VMM from 2016 to 2019.

VMM could not enumerate instances of class Msvm_VirtualSystemManagementService on the server

Anyone else having this issue?

I've upgraded SCVMM 2016 on my Server 2016 to 2019, and afterwards made an Inplace Upgrade of Server 2016 to Server 2019, so this happened a few days after.

Error (20406)
VMM could not enumerate instances of class Msvm_VirtualSystemManagementService on the server "hypervserver1.domain.local" Failed with error HRESULT 0x803381a2 The WinRM client cannot process the request. CredSSP authentication is currently disabled in the client configuration. Change the client configuration and try the request again. CredSSP authentication must also be enabled in the server configuration. Also, Group Policy must be edited to allow credential delegation to the target computer. Use gpedit.msc and look at the following policy: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Credentials Delegation -> Allow Delegating Fresh Credentials.  Verify that it is enabled and configured with an SPN appropriate for the target computer. For example, for a target computer name "myserver.domain.com", the SPN can be one of the following: WSMAN/myserver.domain.com or WSMAN/*.domain.com

Recommended Action

Ensure the provider is running, and then try the operation again.

Test-WSMan - OK
Allow Delegating Fresh Credentials GPO - Is done, but however seems not to be working

$credential = get-credential
Get-VMMManagedComputer -ComputerName "scvmm1.domain.local" | Register-SCVMMManagedComputer -Credential $credential
Get-VMMManagedComputer -ComputerName "hypervserver1.domain.local" | Register-SCVMMManagedComputer -Credential $credential
Get-VMMManagedComputer -ComputerName "hypervserver2.domain.local" | Register-SCVMMManagedComputer -Credential $credential
Get-VMMManagedComputer -ComputerName "hypervserver3.domain.local" | Register-SCVMMManagedComputer -Credential $credential

Last three lines here - fails.

Any ideas?

After upgrading to SCVMM 2019 all Windows 10 VMs has operating system unknown

Hi,

We upgraded to SCVMM 2019, ADK/WinPE to 1809. Server is still on 2016 so is SQL.
After the upgrade all Windows 10 VMs we have shows Operating System unknown. We then set them manually to x64 Windows 10 all looks good. However when the VM refreshes it reverts to Unknown operating system.

Anyone seen this or have an idea of what the problem can be?
Cant see anything in the logs that might relate to this.

VMM 2019 cannot add S2D Storage Provider (Windows Server 2019 hyperconverged cluster)

Hi guys, I'm having troubles adding the S2D Storage Provider of a Windows Server 2019 S2D cluster to my VMM 2019 (on Window s Server 2016) server.

The error (number 26311)  is:

error code 1 [SM_RC_NOT_SUPPORTED].

I found this:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4036543/error-26311-when-you-try-to-add-a-storage-device-to-the-storage-fabric

but it's not my case, the 2019 cluster is brand new and not an upgraded one. I also did run the Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel but did not solve anything.

Any suggestion?

thanks

The original (2012 R2 related) question was never answered. Can someone please help me finding a (starting point to find the) solution?

VMM 2012 R2 - Create or Update Run As Account Failure: The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist

VMM 2012R2 UR4 - Version 3.2.7768.0

Not sure when this started happening since I haven't had to update or create a new RunAs account in VMM in some time, but every time I do, either through the console or through PowerShell it throws an error about The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist.  The VMM Service account is the same as it always has been, and other than this issue everything with VMM is working fine.  The full text of the error message is below.

I am hoping someone has some ideas because I don't have any more at this point.

SCVMM2016 with update 7:

Trying to add member permissions to a Role using the following PowerShell code:

$UserRole = Get-SCUserRole -Name "Cloud01Role"

Set-SCUserRole -UserRole $UserRole -AddMember "MyAD\VMg-Cloud01" -Permission "Stop,Start”

Throws the following error (below: This error dopes not happen if only ONE permission is selected, e.g.

Set-SCUserRole -UserRole $UserRole -AddMember "MyAD\VMg-Cloud01" -Permission "Stop”

works fine. Adding multiple permissions manually also works fine.

Has anyone else experienced this issue (and have a fix)?

Ubuntu 18.04 and SCVMM

We use Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 on a Hyper-V cluster managed by SCVMM 2012R2. We also use the template functionality to deploy new Ubuntu VMs quickly, see: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/vmm/vm-linux?view=sc-vmm-1807

Since Ubuntu 14.04 will be eol in a couple of months we are looking to upgrade/migrate those VMs to Ubuntu 18.04. While Ubuntu 18.04 seems to work fine in our environment, when installed manually, we cannot create new VM templates. Ubuntu 18.04 has had a few changes, mostly in the networking department. It no longer uses the /etc/network/interfaces file to configure the network but something called netplan, which has different config files and syntax.

Does anyone have any experience on how to deploy Ubuntu 18.04 VMs with any newer SCVMM version? Any workaround? If you don't do SCVMM templates with Linux VMs, what do you use instead?

2012 R2 VMM Console fails to connect. ID: 2607

Hello,

When trying to login using the VMM console I get the following error.

"The SQL Server service account does not have permission to access Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).

Ensure that the SQL Server service is running under a domain account or a computer account that has permission to access AD DS. For more information, see "Some applications and APIs require access to authorization information on account objects" in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=121054.

ID: 2607”

This is a clean installation on Server 2012 R2. The setup is as the following;

-      VMM and SQL installed on same server

-      Domain user (not domain admin) is member of local administrators group on the VMM server

-      Domain user used for VMM service account

-      Domain user used for SQL service account

-      Domain user is DBOwner

What works;

Console login using the service account user on the local machine or remote machine

What fails;

Console login using any other user specified in the Administrator user Role of VMM

Any ideas?

Renew Microsoft Remote Attestation Service certificate

Hello,

we currently have a issue on a virtual machine manager 2016 environment where we have to renew a "Microsoft Remote Attestation Service" certificate on each hyper-v host. I find a lot of documentation regarding Host Guardian Service which should use these certificates but I can't find how I can check this where this HGS should be hosted and how to renew the certificates eventually if needed. Can someone guide me in the right direction? Thanks.

Best regards
Davy
